Covid-19

Though there have been some modifications, the shelter-in-place order remains in effect, so there will be no SIG meetings at the DVMUG office. We also won't be having any other meetings that involve physical gatherings. Unfortunately, that means we won't be able to have the picnic this year. The Film Fest is still up in the air, but see below for a possible solution from DVMUG board member Peter Weiler.

We're also planning on having a virtual general meeting at the normal general meeting date and time. So be ready to log in to Zoom on May 20th at 6:30 PM. During the meeting, Peter Weiler will be presenting some valuable information on how to keep safe from malware.

Our Tuesday afternoon virtual SIGs seem to be drawing a bit of a crowd, so we'll keep them coming. Read below to see the meeting that Rick Calicura has planned for Tuesday. I encourage you to connect with us on Tuesday. If you have a question that you would like answered, send it to us on the BBS. Address it to zoom_mail@dvmug.org and we'll get on it. See you (virtually) then.

As always, please don't hesitate to ask any questions that you may have on the DVMUG BBS. It is a great place for getting answers, especially in the specialized areas of the Gateway. So stay home, be safe.

DVMUG Meetings

In addition to its General Meetings, DVMUG sponsors a variety of Special Interest Groups (SIGs) and special events that explore Macintosh applications, uses, and problems. Most meet once a month at the DVMUG office, 396 Civic Drive,
Suite D in Pleasant Hill.
Advance signups are not required except for the MacClinic. Sometimes there are last-minute changes; be sure to check the calendar for the latest!

You can reach the SIG leaders on the DVMUG BBS, or use the e-mail addresses below.

Film Fest

Each year in August, Rossmoor's marvelous Peacock Theater hosts a competition of short videos and slideshows by members of the Rossmoor Camera Club, and our Diablo Valley Mac User Group. Our “film makers” work hard to create their masterpieces. The best win certificates or the coveted grand prize Jeddo trophy handed out at a Wine & Cheese Social/Awards ceremony. Support is offered aspiring videographers through DVMUG SIGs as well as direct support from experienced members. Click here for more info and an Entry Form. Check out some of our previous award winning videos here.

iWork SIG

Fourth Wednesdays, 2 – 4 pm
Pages, Keynote and Numbers are free programs that come with macOS. It is not about all you want to know about those programs; rather, it is about what you personally need to know. It is an approach on how to say it, how to search for it, how to be effective in your presentation of it. How can you use these programs to describe your resume or recipes, or list the parts required for the carpenter to fix something? How can you create and use a sideshow, or create spreadsheets to track money or budgets?
Leader is Linda Rubio, rubitoes@gmail.com, 925-348-0361

MacClinic

Fourth Saturdays, 10 am to noon and 1:30 to 4 pm
Make your sad Mac happy again! DVMUG's legendary MacClinic. We can upgrade your Mac's memory (you supply the memory; we can tell you where to get it). We can upgrade most Macs data storage by installing a new hard drive or solid-state drive. We can troubleshoot problems with malware, adware, and botched installations. We can help setup of your iOS device, backup it up to your Mac and transfer your data to a new iOS device. Appointments for the MacClinic must be made by phone (for triage), then time slots will be assigned. Remember that the services you receive as part of your DVMUG membership beat the heck out of what you would pay elsewhere. Obviously the DVMUG office rent never stops and donations are gratefully received. Give SIG Leader Rick Calicura a call and tell him what ails your Mac and he’ll set you up with an appointment. 925-228-4992. Clinic Lunch photos here.
